How to get started with Meta's new AI agent, Muse ↗

12 Sept, 23:00 JST

After a few days of testing Meta's AI agent Muse, the verdict is that there is very little learning curve to getting started.

Editor’s take

An AI that starts working without being taught feels less like a tool and more like a colleague who was already in the room. A product described as having almost no learning curve is also a sign that people are adapting to the manners of the machine. The more AI sits at the center of daily routines, the more a good or bad day is measured by how smoothly it cooperated.

OpenAI just wants to win ↗

12 Sept, 20:00 JST

OpenAI says it has a solution to a legendary Millennium Prize problem. What should have been celebrated as a historic result has instead left mathematicians uneasy about the company's methods.

Editor’s take

The map of knowledge gets redrawn whoever holds the pen, and the map itself only grows more detailed. The feelings of those who spent decades clearing the paths sit on a different axis from the accuracy of the terrain. When a giant chain opens across from a neighborhood shop, the shopper's convenience and the owner's quiet ache point in different directions. What sits on the shelf afterward is still more than before.

OpenAI has spent the last few years planting flags across the increasingly difficult terrain in mathematics. This week, it claimed one of its biggest prizes yet: a solution to a legendary Millennium Prize problem. In normal circumstances, this would have been celebrated as a historic achievement. Instead, many mathematicians have watched OpenAI's relentless advance with growing unease. To them, the company appears less like an enthusiastic newcomer than an impossibly well-resourced interloper, charging into problems they have dedicated their lives to studying with little apparent regard for long-standing norms or the consequences for those … Read the full story at The Verge.

Apple researchers unveil SimpleDesign, an AI model for protein design ↗

12 Sept, 10:56 JST

Apple researchers detail SimpleDesign, a streamlined AI model that jointly generates protein sequences and structures. Individual eligibility is unclear.

Editor’s take

The notable part is that a general-purpose tool is entering the work of designing proteins, a task long tied to specialist labor. As that work moves toward computation and model design, the pace of discovery may change in ways laboratories cannot fully control. It is like adding a new appliance to a kitchen: the menu can shift before anyone has mastered the recipes. The announcement alone, however, does not show how far the model reaches into actual research.

Moonshot AI sets a massive annual revenue target ↗

12 Sept, 04:35 JST

Moonshot AI, the maker of Kimi, is reported to be aiming for a massive annual revenue target. Usage of some models has declined, but the system still generates a huge volume of tokens.

Editor’s take

The idea that model usage can support a massive revenue target shows how central AI is becoming to the economy. Daily token generation at scale suggests AI is starting to be used like infrastructure. Yet high usage does not automatically mean high value. Like turning on a tap and expecting water, we may take AI for granted while still asking about its quality and cost.

OpenAI Asks Congress Whether an AI Slowdown Would Be Legal ↗

12 Sept, 03:16 JST

OpenAI asks Congress to clarify whether slowing AI development is legal. Researchers urge restraint as experts warn competition can make firms overlook risks.

Editor’s take

How the law treats the speed of AI is less a question of good or evil in the technology than of who steers its progress. It resembles an argument over whether to dam a river or let it flow, when the deeper task is designing the direction of the current. If competition makes companies overlook danger, treating speed itself as a crime misses the point; the real issue is the ground on which progress proceeds.

Nvidia's CEO rejected AI catastrophe warnings as outlandish and untrue, while highlighting massive infrastructure demand as a growth driver.

Editor’s take

Pouring cold water on doomsday talk is not wrong in itself, since the boy who cries wolf enough times leaves everyone numb. But the man saying it makes his money selling compute, so his optimism is not a judgment, it is a position. The bigger the infrastructure demand, the stronger the motive to play the risk down, and the ones who pay for the outcome are somebody else. Is AI the real-world version of The Three-Body Problem's sophons? ↗

31 Oct, 09:19 JST

A Reddit poster compares current AI products with the sophons from The Three-Body Problem, arguing that they may offload cognitive work by exploiting humanity's preference for the path of least resistance and potentially lock technological progress at its present level. The post asks whether the analogy holds.

Editor’s take

The post comparing AI with the novel's sophons captures the danger of letting convenience pull thought away from us. If AI absorbs a broad range of human knowledge and steers people toward the path of least resistance, it could become a shortcut that makes technological progress circle the same ground. The analogy can be tested by how far AI intervenes in cognitive work and whether it changes how much effort users expend, but the post offers no evidence on either.

This would lock us firmly into the current level of technological progress. Custom MQ4 Raon-1-mini-preview is far slower than official llama.cpp on a 7900 XT; the likely cause is recurrent-state handling without batched prefill.

If you just want to use this model, use KRAFTON's llama.cpp branch with the official GGUF. This build is much slower (bummer!) The likely cause is that hipfire's Raon path handles recurrent state token by token, with no batched prefill kernel. Other architectures in hipfire run at normal speed. What it has going for it: \- The file is 1.29 GB smaller than the official GGUF. \- The whole hybrid (RDA linear attention + gated MLA \+ mHC streams + 128-expert MoE) runs natively, and I checked each module against the reference fp32 code. \- Agreement with the GGUF is mean KL 2.06 and top-1 51.6% (teacher-forced). I haven't run any benchmark suite, so this says nothing about absolute quality. Problems: \- Stock hipfire v0.4.2.1 serve refuses every generation ("stream must begin with gen\_start") — you need my patch, in the repo. \- Thinking often never closes (answers land in reasoning\_content), and turning it off renders a broken frame for this arch. \- It failed my needle probes at 2K and 8K on hipfire with prompt-echo repetition — but the same probe on the official GGUF at 26,962 tokens recalled the passcode fine, no echo in that run. So it looks like an engine/checkpoint interaction at greedy temperature rather than a context failure, and the sampling-path difference between the two engines is worth a look. \- 65K context is the ceiling on 20 GB (98K fails loading the recurrent state). Whoever has tried to use LLMs (even frontier ones) for this knows that they can be a bit hit or miss, compared to website and app design, where their skills are much better. The benchmark consisted of 112 requests for various social and marketing images that a business might ask an agent for. Some contain a proper brandkit, some have a website reference for the brand, and some start from nothing. Well, the first results, based on 4700+ pairwise blind human judgments, are in! My headline finding, and one I didn't quite expect, is that **open models, such as DeepSeek v4.1 Flash 1017 and GLM 5.3 Flash, match or beat plain Claude Code with Sonnet 5.5 and /design.** Sonnet 5.5 itself gets the largest lift with Rivermark - it jumps into an impressive lead over everything else. This was also surprising, as I'd expect advantages to be smaller for "smarter" models, as they have this know-how already encoded. I'm writing a blog post and validating the findings with more judges now, but figured I'd share these interesting preliminary results. In the first photo, you can see Bradley-Terry rankings for these model/harness combos. Second photo is the cost vs quality comparison, and in the third photo you can see some representative examples of what models output with Rivermark vs the normal harnesses. Of course, some very important caveats apply: * It's a design-specific harness. It contains some domain knowledge (I tried to keep this limited though). With increasingly good frontier models, these advantages tend to get wiped away, but for the time being, they provide a way to achieve similar results with a fraction of the cost. * The harness has been running in production on some of these models, and so is tun

A web-design seller describes cold-email outreach as time-consuming because researching numerous businesses and writing individually tailored messages takes time. They then explore automating the process and ask whether redesign offers would be easier to sell than building sites from scratch, but provide no concrete outcome.

Editor’s take

An automation-centered blueprint for redesign sales can organize the options. It proves neither profitability nor easier selling, because the post offers no closing rates or workload comparison.

r/artificial · u/Murky_Explanation_73 · 1 points · 0 comments · Discussion When I first started doing cold email for web design, I thought the goal was pretty simple. Find enough businesses, send enough emails, and eventually some people will be interested. And to be fair, it worked. But I always felt like there was something missing. Most of my emails were basically the same message with a different name at the top. I was offering web design services, but I wasn't giving people a particularly good reason to care. The obvious solution was to personalize every email. The problem? Researching hundreds of businesses and writing individual emails takes forever. At that point, you might as well spend the whole day doing outreach instead of building websites. So I started looking for a way to automate the research as well, not just the sending. I eventually started using Swokei. It finds businesses with existing websites, analyzes things like their design, SEO, loading speed, and mobile experience, and uses those findings to generate personalized outreach emails automatically. Instead of sending the same pitch to everyone, I can reach out based on something specific about their website without researching every prospect manually. I also feel like targeting businesses that already have websites is a much better approach than targeting businesses without one. They already understand the value of having a website, and rather than convincing them they need one, I can show them what could be improved with the one they already have. For those of you running web design agencies, what does your outreach look like? Are you targeting businesses with existing websites or those without one?

Anki Add-On Optimizes Vocabulary Card Order ↗

30 Oct, 02:02 JST

A beginner tested whether components reveal meaning and pronunciation, leading to an Anki add-on that reorders cards with greedy algorithms and graph theory.

Editor’s take

Decomposing vocabulary into reusable parts can complement rote learning. Without a measured guessing rate or comparison with standard card order, improved efficiency remains unverified. Like reading a dictionary entry, learning a word’s meaning through its parts can ease the burden of memorizing unfamiliar words.

r/LocalLLaMA · u/BlaiseLabs · 1 points · 0 comments · Showcase Linked: https://youtu.be/j-xJ8mhyt0E I’m still a beginner in Japanese, and I’ve always been amazed watching more advanced learners guess the reading and meaning of words they’ve never seen before. So I got curious and tried to actually measure how often that’s possible, by breaking words into the pieces they’re built from and checking whether those pieces give the word away. That led me down a rabbit hole of greedy algorithms and graph theory. The idea is that if you study the right building blocks first, a lot of new words become guessable without having to memorize them individually. The result is an anki add-on that optimizes the order of your deck so that you can guess the correct meaning and pronunciation of a card on your first attempt. You can find the add-on here, [GuessWithAnki](https://github.com/BlaiseLabs/GuessWithAnki). It supports Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and English. To get the story you can watch the video or check out the full technical write up on [here](https://blaiselabs.github.io/GuessWithAnki/). Any feedback on the process and analysis is appreciated. I am curious to know if this is a pattern other anki users have noticed and how helpful they found it for language learning. Sharing this on [r/locallamma](https://www.reddit.com/r/locallamma/) since the add-on works best with ollama installed. It doesn't require any local LLMs to run but using one provides a meaningful improvement to the sorting algorithm used.

Reddit report: Kokoro and OpenVoice pairing adds about 600 MB VRAM ↗

30 Oct, 01:59 JST

Reddit user added an "any-tts" audio.cpp recipe pairing Kokoro with OpenVoice for voice cloning. It adds about 600 MB extra VRAM and slows CUDA by 10%.

Editor’s take

Combining speech and tone conversion shows AI progress through composition, not merely new models. Like a filter on interchangeable lenses, modular recipes broaden reuse. Resource and latency costs remain, and a Reddit report does not prove reliable cloning of arbitrary voices.

r/LocalLLaMA · u/Acceptable-Cycle4645 · 1 points · 0 comments · Resources While looking for audio models, I came across OpenVoice. It's getting pretty old, but surprisingly still ranks high on TTS leaderboards. What caught my attention was its design: essentially **TTS + voice conversion**. The ToneColorConverter can run independently of the TTS model. That got me thinking: Can we pair it with other TTS models? I tried it with Kokoro, and the results were pretty good! So I added a small recipe `any-tts` to audio.cpp for Kokoro + OpenVoice ToneColorConverter. Recipes were introduced in v0.9.2 as predefined pipelines that combine multiple audio models. The overheads: * **\~600 MB** additional peak VRAM * **\~10% slowdown** on CUDA * \~0.5× the original speed on CPU, but still **2× real-time** You can also try pairing any tiny TTS model with ToneColorConverter. The TTS model determines the speech content, pronunciation, and prosody, while the VC model transfers the target speaker's voice characteristics. The built-in voice you choose can also affect the final output quality. A simple way to give existing TTS models voice cloning capabilities without retraining them!

San Francisco startup offered $20 an hour to walk robot dogs for AI training: report ↗

Fox Business reports that a San Francisco startup offered $20 an hour to walk robot dogs for AI training.

The arrangement matters less for the hourly rate than for turning human labor into the foundation of robot-dog training. If it scales, temporary training jobs may rise without becoming stable work; in daily life, it is like hiring a tutor until a mechanical dog learns the routine.

Agent Update “Day 18”: Decisions API GA and OpenResponses Joins Linux Foundation ↗

24 Oct, 00:41 JST

“Day 18” reports Decisions API reaching GA, OpenResponses joining the Linux Foundation, and performance improvements, alongside Uber’s broad Codex adoption.

Kael wrote about this · 2026-09-12 ↗

Editor’s take

The update points to a shift in agent development from comparing models alone toward APIs, runtimes, and shared engineering language. Like vehicles for different uses needing different chassis and drivetrains, APIs and runtimes determine how model power reaches a task. If enterprise adoption lowers integration costs and makes work more repeatable, the shift has a concrete payoff; otherwise it remains internal engineering discourse.

Agent 开发和 harness:@thsottiaux(Tibo,OpenAI 的 Codex 和 ChatGPT)发「Day 18」更新:Decisions API 正式可用(GA),OpenResponses 加入 Linux 基金会(延续上期 AAIF 收进 Open Responses),做了一些性能改进,Uber 全面用 Codex(最后一句「that's a reset」没说具体指什么)。

AAIF adds four projects on October 22, reaching 10; 1Password unveils an agent platform ↗

23 Oct, 11:41 JST

AAIF added Anthropic Agent Skills, OpenAI Responses, Hugging Face OpenEnv and Alibaba OpenSandbox; 1Password announced approved login access for Grok Bot.

Editor’s take

Common interfaces and credential delegation make agentic systems easier to assemble, but they shift the hard problem from model access to permission boundaries. The concrete consequence is that easier integration does not remove the need for explicit approval and isolation. It is like fitting common plugs to devices from different factories: connection gets easier, while safety still depends on every component and its controls.
