French Police Could Use Invisible-Marker Chemicals to Identify Protesters ↗
23 Oct, 11:18 JST
The title of a linked report says French police could soon tag protesters with chemicals containing invisible markers that would allow them to be identified later. The supplied material gives no technical details, approval status, or timetable.
Editor’s take
A chemical tag that can identify a protester later could turn public expression into a traceable record. If rules, oversight, and limits on use are not public, the capability may deter participation in protests; it is like letting a stranger keep a copy of your front-door key.

According to a linked report, Cambridge scientists created a $10 chip that could put a medical laboratory on the wrist.

23 Oct, 04:40 JST
A Reddit post calls a free AI cloning tool “the end of software.” Only an external report link is supplied, leaving its name, operation, and claims unverified.
Editor’s take
“The end of software” reaches for a conclusion before the evidence, and a slogan cannot establish what the tool can do. If cloning truly reproduces software, the concrete consequence is easier reconstruction; if it does not, the debate leaves only an inflated label. 1Password announced a new solution to mitigate security risks from AI agents accessing accounts.

Account access by an AI agent resembles handing someone a key: the broader the permission, the larger the potential impact. The announcement is valuable because it treats security management, not convenience alone, as the design problem; unclear boundaries can turn convenience into wider exposure.

Local reporting says college students around Boston are organizing a walkout to call for a freeze on AI development; the Reddit post offers only a link and a short description.
Editor’s take
The impulse to stop the clock from the human side surfaces questions that convenience tends to bury. A freeze is a fire alarm: it does not put out the fire, but it does empty the building into the corridor. Unless the organizers turn the demand into a rule someone could actually draft, this walkout will draw attention without changing the pace of development.

Holyvolt, which develops AI tools for making and testing new battery materials, has raised $45M from Zone II, CC.VC and others, with a source putting the valuation at $245M.

The funding bets that AI can shorten the slow loop of battery discovery. From an AI-centrist view: tooling that prioritizes local validation creates the soil for AI agents to iterate without touching production. Lightweight web framework Hono releases v4.13.8, addressing Accept header q-value handling, AWS Lambda streaming backpressure, and JSX/DOM performance for large keyed updates.

Fixing q-value handling reflects treating HTTP as a strict machine-readable contract. Edge cases invisible to humans silently determine downstream API compatibility. The ceiling on computing performance is ultimately set by how accurately wiring and parasitic effects can be captured. Local Workflow instances in @cloudflare/workflows-shared@0.14.0 now support subscribe(), a disposable RPC subscription streaming historical and live lifecycle events.

Being able to subscribe to workflow state step by step reduces the black box of AI-driven automation and expands the room for human intervention. wrangler@4.131.1 is out: deploys adding a custom domain or enabling Preview URLs now warn that DNS and TLS provisioning may continue afterwards.
Editor’s take
When backend behaviour cannot be verified, saying so is what keeps a tool trustworthy rather than merely fast. Flagging a guess as a guess is like a forecast writing 'not observable' in the margin. A note that admits its limits survives being wrong: it can be corrected, not denied.

Stable redeploys don't repeat the note. This assumes that a request which matches the stored custom domain state doesn't restart provisioning. The client infers this from the API changeset and current domain record because this repository can't verify the backend behavior. - [#15592](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/pull/15592) [`945aaa3`](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/commit/945aaa32e0c38116e501f8509884cb1cc8f1d51b) Thanks [@WillTaylorDev](https://github.com/WillTaylorDev)! - Clarify production status labels for custom domain routes Wrangler now prefixes explicit custom domain production states with `production:` so they match Preview labels. The updated labels appear in deployed trigger output and `WRANGLER_OUTPUT_FILE_PATH`. - [#15602](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/pull/15602) [`47d906f`](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/commit/47d906f52d109509f61b1c801c1b08ecad583c0d) Thanks [@dependabot](https://github.com/apps/dependabot)! - Update dependencies of "miniflare", "wrangler" The following dependency versions have been updated: | Dependency | From | To | | ------------------------- | ------------- | ------------- | | @cloudflare/workers-types | ^5.20260910.1 | ^5.20260911.1 | | workerd | 1.20260910.1 | 1.20260911.1 | - [#15592](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/pull/1559
