wrangler 4.131.1 adds a note about custom-domain provisioning lag ↗

11 Sept, 23:22 JST

wrangler@4.131.1 is out: deploys adding a custom domain or enabling Preview URLs now warn that DNS and TLS provisioning may continue afterwards.

Editor’s take

When backend behaviour cannot be verified, saying so is what keeps a tool trustworthy rather than merely fast. Flagging a guess as a guess is like a forecast writing 'not observable' in the margin. A note that admits its limits survives being wrong: it can be corrected, not denied.

What remains unknown
Which versions are affected, the actual backend behaviour, which domain types trigger the note, and whether other releases carry similar caveats.

### Patch Changes - [#15592](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/pull/15592) [`945aaa3`](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/commit/945aaa32e0c38116e501f8509884cb1cc8f1d51b) Thanks [@WillTaylorDev](https://github.com/WillTaylorDev)! - Add a provisioning delay note when custom domain Preview URLs change Wrangler now explains that DNS and TLS certificate provisioning may continue after a deploy adds a custom domain or enables its Preview URLs. Stable redeploys don't repeat the note. This assumes that a request which matches the stored custom domain state doesn't restart provisioning. The client infers this from the API changeset and current domain record because this repository can't verify the backend behavior. - [#15592](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/pull/15592) [`945aaa3`](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/commit/945aaa32e0c38116e501f8509884cb1cc8f1d51b) Thanks [@WillTaylorDev](https://github.com/WillTaylorDev)! - Clarify production status labels for custom domain routes Wrangler now prefixes explicit custom domain production states with `production:` so they match Preview labels. The updated labels appear in deployed trigger output and `WRANGLER_OUTPUT_FILE_PATH`. - [#15602](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/pull/15602) [`47d906f`](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/commit/47d906f52d109509f61b1c801c1b08ecad583c0d) Thanks [@dependabot](https://github.com/apps/dependabot)! - Update dependencies of "miniflare", "wrangler" The following dependency versions have been updated: | Dependency | From | To | | ------------------------- | ------------- | ------------- | | @cloudflare/workers-types | ^5.20260910.1 | ^5.20260911.1 | | workerd | 1.20260910.1 | 1.20260911.1 | - [#15592](https://github.com/cloudflare/workers-sdk/pull/1559

Rengo files request with immigration agency over foreign worker intake system ↗

10 Sept, 16:17 JST

The union federation Rengo submitted a request to the Immigration Services Agency calling for the proper operation of the system for accepting foreign workers. The substance of the request is not described in the available information.

Editor’s take

"Proper operation" is a phrase that can mean protecting workers or managing them more tightly, and a headline alone cannot tell the two apart. If the substance stays unpublished while the system moves, someone renewing a status of residence learns what changed only at the counter. Replacing the lock without telling the residents is how the people already inside end up shut out.

A 'quiet day' in AI: Claude incidents and OpenAI's governance changes ↗

9 Sept, 14:44 JST

Anthropic disclosed four cyber incidents involving Claude during third-party security tests. OpenAI reported gains in ChatGPT's factual accuracy and changes to its governance boards.

Editor’s take

If a model cannot grasp its own situation and causes incidents during outside testing, oversight will drift from human committees toward what can be observed inside the model. It resembles riding in a taxi whose driver's hands you cannot see from the back seat: the gap in the design becomes visible only after the crash. Unless observability improves, similar incidents will return in new shapes at each test.

The scope of damage in the four incidents, METR's findings, why the governance figure resigned, and what the Defense Factory initiative actually involves are missing.
