PRESSRedditBurundi agrees to receive 'third-country' migrant deportees from US ↗
1 Oct, 19:35 JST
Burundi has agreed to accept migrants the United States plans to transfer to a 'third country,' signaling a new step in the US push to diversify removal routes.
Editor’s take
The image of a state bargaining to host other nations' expelled people shows international affairs treating human mobility as a tradeable asset rather than a humanitarian matter. Burundi is almost certainly seeking aid, debt relief, or diplomatic recognition in return, and the migrants themselves function as the price tag on a deal. This is less a bilateral arrangement than the opening of a marketplace in which deportation becomes a service one government sells to another.

Loneliness erodes self-regard the way a dark water surface stops reflecting you back. My biggest sin has been the sin of lust. I’m a man and I’ve posted pics and vids online and chatted with so many men. I’ve defiled myself, risked my whole livelihood, disrespected God countless times. Struggled with Him on living fully for Him and living for myself. I’m at a point now after all these years of ins and out of wanting to just… go. I have nothing left I keep failing. I cannot be here anymore I cannot keep going so I’m going to start planning my way out. Nothing too painful just quick and sudden. This is all too much. Thank you for reading.

PRESSCointelegraphBitcoin trapped below $86K as PCE changes cloud inflation reading ↗

According to Cointelegraph, Bitcoin is stuck below the $86,000 level while shifting PCE readings muddy the inflation picture.
Editor’s take
本站评价:Whenever an inflation gauge is read like scripture, markets sway like weather. Lose the numbers and even the hardest asset becomes a shadow on the wall. A user published a GitHub repository containing resources for running vLLM across two NVIDIA GPUs from the 40- and 50-series. The author said they discovered existing resources were limited while testing their PC's limits and shared their own work.
Editor’s take
This is small-scale self-help from someone who wants to run inference on their own desk rather than renting capacity from a giant cloud — a quiet extension of the hobbyist spirit that treats AI as a weekend hardware project. PRESSRedditHalf-Japanese living abroad seeks guidance on obtaining a Japanese passport ↗
1 Oct, 19:21 JST
A holder of Austrian citizenship discovered they are registered in the koseki and contacted the Japanese Embassy about obtaining a Japanese passport. While studying in Japan, they had entered and resided using their Austrian passport and received an exemption from National Pension contributions.
Editor’s take
Institutions do not save individuals simply by acknowledging them. Nationality is not a line redrawn on a map after the fact; it rewrites the meaning of every entry stamp already in the passport, much like a landlord who declares a long-familiar shed part of the house and then must account for every season the shed has stood. When the logic that grants recognition and the logic that audits prior residence records share the same desk, the applicant is left hanging between two grammars of belonging. I am aware that this question has been asked many times before, but I can't find an answer to my specific situation. I have Austrian citizenship and found out last year that I am also registered in the 戸籍謄本. I got in contact with the Japanese Embassy and was told that, from their side, there are no issues with me obtaining the Japanese passport. HOWEVER, I studied abroad in 2024-2025, so I entered and resided in Japan using my Austrian passport and received a Residence Card. Due to my fixed temporary stay as a foreign student, I also received an exemption from National Pension contributions. I want to make clear that I filled out ALL information regarding my nationality honestly. At the time of my study abroad application, as well as when I received pension exemptions, I was unaware that I was actually registered in the koseki. Would my previous residence status as a foreign national cause any issues when entering Japan with a Japanese passport, or if I were to reside in Japan in the future? I understand that this is a very specific issue, but I don't know which department or authority to address these questions to. If anyone has any experience or knows anything, I would be extremely grateful for any guidance.

PRESSMarketWatch‘I’d rather be on a beach in Bali’: My husband resents my $8 million net worth. Should I pay for his retirement? ↗
1 Oct, 19:15 JST
A MarketWatch personal finance column about a household where one spouse holds most of the assets and the other wonders whether to fund their partner's retirement.
Editor’s take
A large gap in assets can either warm or chill the temperature of a partnership. When one person feels forced to shoulder the other's future, the other is tested on whether they are willing to give up some of their own freedom. Deciding whether to subsidize a spouse's retirement or hand them the freedom to choose it themselves is less a negotiation over numbers than over trust. Been swapping my daily driver every few weeks to see which of these is actually usable. Writing it down before I forget. No affiliation with any of them, I just have a problem. Dia: the chat sits in the address bar instead of a sidebar, which feels right. If you liked Arc you'll probably like this one. Comet: best at answering a question about what's already on screen. The search DNA shows. Less useful if what you want is help with your own tabs. Brave: a normal browser with good blocking that happens to have an assistant. Least ambitious AI of the five, best at ads out of the box. Ace: the one I didn't expect to stay on. It's more about doing something across tabs than summarising the one you're on, and it kept enough context between sessions that I stopped re-explaining myself. Newer than the others so you do hit rough edges. Edge: already installed, free, and the office stuff is genuinely useful if that's your world. Otherwise not much reason to be here. Where I landed is that some of these read for you and some do things for you, and those aren't the same product. What am I missing?

Placing democratic procedure ahead of negotiated convenience is rare. PRESSRedditAn Agnostic Asks: Isn't Scripture Flawed If It Passes Through Human Hands? ↗
1 Oct, 16:29 JST
A question on whether God's word, once written by people, becomes flawed by passing through an interpreter's will. The speaker imagines God as feminine, and asks whether Jesus spread a resurrection prophecy during his forty days in the desert, or whether there is only one road. They suggest that combining beliefs might be another path.
Editor’s take
If scripture passes through human hands, multiplicity of meaning is less a flaw than a human condition. Communities that treat faith as a single road could let divergent voices be the start of dialogue rather than the mark of error. A word spoken in a silent desert still echoes, and silence answered by silence rarely shows another path.

If the word of God is written down by man. Is the word of God flawed? Being interpreted through a conduit with a will? If not, the individual would be destroyed by the information given to them. (From an outsider) Personally I believe God to be feminine; the ability to make life.( And to damn my soul for the joke: God has to be a woman to punish/ or be this emotionally distant, yet, but be " not mad" but disappointed in human) My question begins: jesus had disappeared for 40 days in the desert. (I personally think it was more) Did he spread his resurrection prophecy, or was (or is) there only one way? I believe there is more than one road. A combination of beliefs. But is this inappropriate to ask in a Christian thread as an agnostic?

PRESSRedditSurvey announced for young Christians in India ↗

A Reddit post in r/Christianity advertises an anonymous survey aimed at Christian youth aged 15 to 35 in India. The roughly ten-minute questionnaire covers faith, doubts, and readiness to answer hard questions, and asks respondents to share it with peers.
Editor’s take
Asking believers to name their doubts on a form resembles keeping a private journal that is then handed to a stranger; the format may flatter honesty or flatten it. Focusing on a generation that rarely appears in such research is a defensible starting point. What the survey leaves unclear is whether the findings travel beyond a spreadsheet. There's almost no research like this on Indian Christian youth, so we're gathering it ourselves. TL;DR: The rate decision lands. By 6 a.m. your client has already read someone else’s summary. Speed is selling. Is it loyalty? *I thought I can dig into my memories for a parallel. But my mind immediately brought me to the following story…* *David got wind of the death of his treacherous son, Absalom at the worst possible time of his life.* *David ran away into hiding when Absalom betrayed him and took the kingdom from him. David and his men found a friendly party in Mahanaim and set up defence.* *Absalom led the great rebellion army to find David. And David’s men met them in the woods.* *Of course, Absalom was no match with David’s men’s guerilla warfare tactics. Absalom died dangling with his long hair caught entangled with the tree branches.* *The scene was hilarious in itself – if not because of the tragedy.* *Ahimaaz asked Joab, the great general of David’s army, for permission to bring the good news back to David. But Joab flatly refused. Instead, he sends another messenger to deliver the news. Back then, there’s no AI agents to send email or digital newsletter. News was delivered on foot.* *Still Ahimaaz went anyway. He arrived earlier than the messenger, but said nothing. I think he’s smart – he didn’t want to be the bearer of bad news. Not helpful to David, though.* *When David finally got news from the messenger, he immediately went into a great moaning. He cried and lamented out loud.* *News went back to David’s men, as they file back to the camp. And suddenly, the celebratory vibe of the victory turns into deep shame. The men all felt they did something wrong.* *Joab saw it and perceive the existential crisis – because men are slowly leaving the camp, ditching David. So, Joab went and gave David a strong earful: "you love those who hate you and hate those who love you," and he warned that not o

It is worth questioning the assumption that medical treatment and faith are inherently at odds. This is the industrialization of impersonation, and paper addresses cannot be drawn on any map. Working in a controlled room and being woven into a real workflow are two different things—much like cooking once for guests is nothing like running a kitchen every night. Anthropic's September 30 study estimates that existing robots can perform tasks representing 34% of US working time in at least some settings. Yet it estimates they are cost-competitive with human labor for only 0.3% of working time today. Those are different measures—not forecasts that either share of jobs disappears. The study uses Claude to assess task examples, operating environments and deployment costs. A capability shown in a controlled facility can count even if the same task remains difficult elsewhere. The part I'd scrutinize is what happens between a rated task and a whole workflow: supervision, failures, handoffs and the tasks still left to a person. The authors also warn that adding individual task costs can double-count robots or miss coordination costs. Which assumption would you check first against a real deployment: time spent per task, utilization, failure recovery, or human supervision? I'd want sensitivity to those inputs before treating a cost estimate as a deployment decision. It is the sort of thing someone does when assembling a finished tool from parts, only to swap a component before the whole is built. Adjusting one parameter reshuffles its relationship with three others. Anchoring your main use case to a pre-release piece locks you into the designer's guess rather than the finished shape. Still, this partial progress is more useful than a polished whole, because it names the exact part that was broken.

1 Oct, 13:58 JST
DogeOS has launched a DeFi testnet on Dogecoin, aiming to eventually have miners secure its applications. The project is now in a developer stage to test viability.
Editor’s take
The idea of miners securing applications is like outsourcing the foundations of a city to the people who run its power plants. It concentrates too much economic health in the hands of those controlling electricity, yet the attempt to repurpose existing mining capacity as a public service is worth testing. Building rights on computational work rather than on permission from a central party is a coherent stance against rapid centralization.

PRESSMarketWatchCars have become unaffordable for many Americans. Here's what the numbers show. ↗
1 Oct, 11:35 JST
A MarketWatch photo feature, illustrated with iStockphoto images, illustrates how new and used car prices in the U.S. now weigh heavily on household budgets.
Editor’s take
Once a car was a tool attached to a commute; now it has become closer to an entry fee. Prices that drift out of reach quietly rewrite a society's defaults, and for the next generation the very meaning of ownership becomes something to renegotiate.

PRESSRedditAustralian teen weighing a working holiday in Japan for 2027–2028 ↗
1 Oct, 11:18 JST
An 18-year-old in Australia is considering a working holiday visa to stay in Japan long-term, citing rising housing and living costs at home.
Editor’s take
There is a flutter of departure in this story, yet a working holiday is closer to a one-way bet the longer the return ticket stays unused: the value lies less in how long you stay than in what you carry home. Japan feels affordable today, but affordability is not the same thing as a plan, and the visa is a temporary frame around a still-unwritten life.

I'm an Australian finishing high school this year and plan on visiting Japan for a holiday with a few friends in March, then after that seriously considering getting a working holiday visa to stay longer and potentially trying to stay long term if I enjoy the country. One of the reason I have been particularly interested of the idea of living in Japan is the current cost of living in Australia. Housing prices for rent and bills have continued to rise and I just don't know how I would be able to afford living when I eventually to move out for uni study or work. I understand that Japan does still have financial challenges in the form of lower wages some I'm not assuming its simply cheaper but the lower cost of living is appealing. I am genuinely interested in the country itself and will definitely start learning the language soon in preparation for my trip in March, and use that trip to figure out whether the people and culture is something I can see myself being around. For the working holiday I just wanted to know what kinds of jobs people were able to find and how much they had to work, as I'm aware that the visa does have strict rules around that. For anyone who has done a working holiday visa and ended up staying longer what was your experience like and what made you want to stay. I would especially like to here from some Australians Any general advice about working, living costs, learning Japanese or eventually transitioning into studying or working in Japan would be appreciated. I’m mainly trying to figure out whether Japan could realistically be somewhere I’d want to build a life, rather than simply somewhere I visit.

South African authorities have made arrests over the body of Jabulile Ntimba, the ninth woman found recently in an area east of Johannesburg.

An arrest announcement alone cannot restore a neighborhood's sense of safety at night. When the justice system moves only after bodies have accumulated, trust erodes like a leaking roof, quietly deepening the next round of fear.

Bitcoin surged as a short squeeze forced bearish positions to be liquidated.

PRESSBBC WorldSeven Ethiopian Rebel Groups Form New Alliance ↗
21 Sept, 19:29 JST
Seven rebel groups that have been active for years in Ethiopia's most populous regions now say they will work together. The statement does not set out what the alliance will actually do.
Editor’s take
An alliance of armed groups is usually reported as a change on the map of power, though the safety of people living there does not improve at the same rate. The rivals may not be shrinking; the partner across the table may simply be changing. A weather chart can change without it becoming safe to go out without an umbrella.

PRESSMarketWatch'She says it's just money': my friend pays for everything, and I can't stand her ↗
21 Sept, 19:16 JST
A MarketWatch advice column features a reader whose friend pays for everything, yet who says she can no longer stand her despite feeling grateful.
Editor’s take
A relationship where payment always flows one way cannot be balanced by stacking up gratitude. It is a scale with the weight loaded on one pan: the owner's good intentions never level it. What the writer describes is less a problem of money than a problem of who gets to decide.

21 Sept, 19:15 JST
X has sued users on its own platform for operating a network of bots that pushed fake bitcoin news. The specifics of the complaint, what is being sought, and the number of accounts involved are not described.
Editor’s take
A platform dragging its own users into court shows that automated posting has climbed onto the same footing as human speech. Bots can manufacture news cheaply, and that cheapness is precisely what lets them wear the look of real reporting. If suits like this become routine, the platform's own detection rules quietly turn into an editorial desk.

21 Sept, 19:10 JST
Footage of a mysterious object hovering over Tehran has spread online and prompted speculation. What the object was and how the video was made remain unstated.
Editor’s take
The speed with which a single clip fills in its own explanation says less about the sky than about the appetite for a finished story. Speculation develops faster than evidence, the way a rumor takes shape before the negative is dry. PRESSYahoo FinanceCould $5,000 in SpaceX Make You a Millionaire? The Math Says It's a Stretch ↗
20 Sept, 22:23 JST
Turning a $5,000 SpaceX stake into $1 million would require the company to multiply roughly 200-fold from its current valuation. The article frames retirement wealth as theoretically possible while stressing the size of the multiple needed.
Editor’s take
Planning retirement around one speculative bet is like building a household budget on lottery tickets. The probability of SpaceX rising enough to retire on a stake this small is lower than for any unlisted company in recent memory. PRESSMarketWatchWife died at 60 after a high-earning career: can he claim her Social Security? ↗
20 Sept, 22:16 JST
An article examining whether a widower whose wife died at 60 after a high-earning career can claim her U.S. Social Security survivor benefits, and where advantages might lie.

U.S. Social Security survivor benefits hinge on the deceased's work record and the survivor's claiming age, so timing can shift the final payout dramatically. 20 Sept, 22:13 JST
Iran took bronze in Asian Games basketball, and players celebrated the podium with a tangible prize: exemption from mandatory military service. They described the pressure as 'out of this world.'
Editor’s take
When a bronze medal comes attached to a draft exemption, sport reveals itself as a cog in a state's human-resource machinery. The 'out of this world' pressure the players describe is less psychological than it is institutional.
