Nike stock heads toward its worst year ever as sales seen falling further ↗
2 Oct, 09:13 JST
Nike's stock is on track for its worst annual performance, with sales projected to decline further.
Editor’s take
A pop-culture icon losing its shine is a quiet parable: empires built on identity erode the same way weather wears down a statue. The trouble with believing in nothing durable is that the signs of collapse show up first in quarterly numbers, long before anyone admits the mythology has cracked. If this slide is not reversed, it will confirm that brands are just stories—and stories age.

2 Oct, 08:07 JST
Israeli PM Netanyahu stated that the Omani co-pilot who attempted to crash a passenger plane had undergone Islamist radical indoctrination. Israel is framing the background of the incident through the lens of radicalization.
Editor’s take
This framing is itself a lens that reads religion as the societal container for individual acts. By locating the cause inside an ideology, the explanation is offloaded onto a larger story rather than the person. Whenever any community yields a single actor, the question of what belonging failed is the one left untouched, and so prevention tends to miss.

At a pro-Palestine rally in the UK, a 94-year-old Jewish activist was detained on suspicion of supporting Palestine Action.
Editor’s take
When memory and conviction are treated as interchangeable in the eyes of the law, a lifetime of practice can be placed on the docket overnight. The toolbox that served a generation is suddenly reclassified as a weapon, and the boundary between public safety and free expression reveals exactly whose story a society will accommodate. Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu alleges that the co-pilot of a flydubai aircraft underwent radical Islamist indoctrination, prompting the UAE to launch an investigation.
Editor’s take
Political rhetoric that frames complex incidents as civilizational clashes flattens reality into a single story. History shows that motives assigned to religiously labeled individuals are frequently revised once facts emerge. PRESSReligion News ServiceUS Department of Defense announces new Office of Religious Affairs ↗
2 Oct, 07:39 JST
Pete Hegseth has announced a new Office of Religious Affairs to assess the spiritual fitness, readiness, and resilience of soldiers, drawing on research and analytical tools.
Editor’s take
An institution built to fight wars is now in the business of measuring the inner life of those it commands. When a bureaucracy turns the soul into a metric, the line between caring for soldiers and managing them thins almost imperceptibly. Theologians and ethicists have warned for decades that this kind of language reframes belief as a variable to be optimized, and history offers a reminder of how quickly that vocabulary travels from the chapel to the personnel file.

Retirement cashflow can become an unusually sturdy safety net, restoring the ability to build a life in one's own hands without leaning on faith; chasing only the headline deposit rate is like grabbing the moon's reflection on the river, while the real landscape lies in the asset design beneath the surface.

When a public square is run by a private company, the sign may read like common ground, yet the keys always stay with the owner. Not sure if this is the right place for this but just had a call from above. Flashed up on my screen. Shat is and answered. Very professional sounding. Had busted a gang. They had thousands of folders with people's names and one was mine. Had emails, passwords and a document with 24 random words. He stated he wasn't sure what that was but it seemed important. I've no Crypto anymore but had a fair bit of BTC and ETH back in the very early days. Stored on a Trezor and Ledger which i still have but have been dormant for years. Pre covid. I immediately hung up when it dawned on me that a fraud investigator would recognise a seed phrase and would not say they were not sure what it was. Now wondering if this was 100% a scam. He didn't ask for anything and said he just wanted to give me a reference number as it was going to be a long, complicated case and I might need to have some input. It also flashed up the correct number for the police station. Anyone else have this?

PRESSReligion News ServiceBishop Mariann Budde to resign, will remain in post during lengthy replacement process ↗
2 Oct, 04:12 JST
Bishop Mariann Budde of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington has announced her resignation. Because selecting a successor will take time, she will continue leading the diocese through the transition. In an exclusive interview, Budde said she wants to lead well during this period and give the next leader and the diocese as much momentum as possible going forward.
Editor’s take
When a large institution announces a long leadership handover, the choice to stay on through the search reshapes what the next person inherits, not just who that person is. It is the way a departing leader positions the gap, more than the profile of the successor, that will shape the diocese's first years under new guidance. The real question is whether a test can stand in for a balance sheet. An exam tries to substitute learning for wealth, which is a more honest starting point than net‑worth thresholds alone, yet it is still a gate. Aaron Baer, founder of Ohio-based Christian advocacy group Center for Christian Virtue, publicly endorsed President Trump’s newly introduced Education Freedom Tax Credit, linking it to the work of the Christian Education Network.
Editor’s take
Channeling public revenue into a pipeline that sustains one particular worldview resembles a shared well fitted with a tap that only fills a single pitcher. Once the state’s money becomes the lifeblood of a specific inheritance system, the signboard of neutrality fades. If this approach becomes routine, the tax code itself will operate as a sorting mechanism, quietly separating households by the beliefs they can afford to pass on.

PRESSCointelegraphBitcoin fights for local uptrend as US bond yields drop from new 24-year highs ↗
2 Oct, 00:55 JST
US bond yields retreated from a 24-year peak, easing one of the heaviest macro weights on crypto. Traders now watch whether the move extends or fades into the next data print.
Editor’s take
Rates shape prices the way weather shifts mood rather than deciding the destination. The relief is real but modest, more a change in posture than a verdict, and the next labor print alone can erase it. Whether this thaw hardens into a trend or melts by Friday remains unresolved.

PRESSAl JazeeraFlydubai attack gives Netanyahu new security message ahead of Israel vote ↗
2 Oct, 00:47 JST
The motive behind the Flydubai incident remains unclear, but the Israeli PM is framing it within his warnings of threats to Israelis.
Editor’s take
This episode shows how unresolved events can be absorbed into a leader's security rhetoric before a vote. When facts are thin, a politician stitches ambiguity into a familiar threat narrative and the press often carries the thread. Readers should watch whether reporting is explaining the incident or merely amplifying the campaign.

PRESSCointelegraphNEAR Intents hit by exploit after aiding Bitget response ↗
2 Oct, 00:43 JST
Cointelegraph reports that NEAR Intents suffered a multimillion-dollar crypto exploit following its involvement in addressing a Bitget incident.
Editor’s take
This incident shows goodwill can become a doorway. Whoever makes helping others a core part of their work must treat that posture as a permanent attack surface, and refuse any version of aid that requires opening a vault to a stranger. A chain of assistance is not a chain of custody.

2 Oct, 00:43 JST
A bug in Near Intents let an attacker drain roughly $3.8 million through cross-chain swaps, prompting the platform to freeze the service and promise full repayment to every affected user.
Editor’s take
It is like a large aquarium springing a leak and the attendant immediately promising to scoop every fish back in by hand; the speed of the pledge stands in stark contrast to the ledgers of traditional finance, but it is still only a spoken promise. Whether the money actually lands back in users' wallets quickly will decide whether this incident leaves a lasting dent in trust or becomes a case study in competent recovery.

A delegation from the Lutheran World Federation met with the Pope, with “from conflict to communion” as the shared theme of the encounter. The meeting signaled a willingness to deepen cooperation and reconciliation between the two traditions.

1 Oct, 22:22 JST
The Israel Defense Forces released a lengthy official rebuttal to the film 'NAZA' via outlets including the Times of Israel, sharply condemning its content as distorted, misleading, and disingenuous. With competing claims on both sides, it was published as part of an ongoing information battle.
Editor’s take
When two sides trade propaganda, it is like holding mirrors up to each other. Neither side usually holds the complete truth, and a public rebuttal more often deepens distrust than erases it.
