US Aims to Turn Stablecoins Into a Weapon for Dollar Dominance ↗
25 Sept, 01:55 JST
Washington may fund private stablecoin ventures abroad to protect the dollar’s reserve status and prop up demand for Treasury debt.
Editor’s take
When a state funds private payment networks to defend its reserve currency, stablecoins stop being neutral technology and become instruments of geopolitics. For users, the value in a wallet can shift with another country’s demand for government debt, like checking someone else’s roof repairs to decide whether you will stay dry in the rain. If this plan advances, adoption will be described less as a payment convenience and more as a byproduct of dollar defense.

Analysts are split over the extension of the US-China trade truce: some call it pure optics, others a useful step toward a more durable deal.
Editor’s take
An extended truce is like sheltering under someone else's eaves: you stay dry, but you never get inside the house. The return of press access under a judge's order is a concrete case of judicial checks working against executive restriction. A White House door opened by a judge's key is like a second exit in a one-way building. Yet only some outlets returned, and lasting same treatment is not guaranteed.

PRESSCointelegraphSoFi tie-up shows stablecoins can be an alternative blockchain settlement rail ↗
25 Sept, 00:57 JST
Cointelegraph presents the SoFi tie-up as a case showing that stablecoins can serve as a blockchain settlement route separate from the existing banking network.
Editor’s take
The interesting shift is not that another payment rail exists, but that settlement can happen outside the banking calendar. Adding a second pipe to a house does not make the water cleaner, but one clogged line no longer stops the tap. The more routes there are, the harder it becomes to see who takes a cut along the way. The index's daily move now belongs less to the average of its members than to the mood of a handful of giants, and that is a structural fact rather than a verdict on whether concentration is good or bad. Many a praise have been sung on Qwen-3.8, but here is mine. Qwen-3.8 and I had a rocky start, because it thinks so much. Watching it working is painful, so you have to stop doing that. You have to let it work unsupervised. And that's okay, because it really is able to complete complex refactors on its own, making good decisions along the way. Not perfect, but hey, neither is API. The model quant is Q4\_K\_S, context is quantized to Q8\_0, which seems to be okay, quality wise. I use the official Qwen. Briefly tried Swift-Qwen, which is indeed faster, but I found it getting trapped in loops, which is very rare in vanilla Qwen. I am using Qwen-3.8 in the Pi agent without MCP and with the minimum amount of tools. Bash is all you need, but I keep the read, write, and edit tools. The edit tool in Pi is the weakest link, the model often has to retry edits, because it messed up the indentation. I am waiting for someone to come up with a more fault-tolerant edit in Pi. Probably I have to make one myself some day. As a sandbox I use docker. My Pi agent is running on a Raspberry Pi, which seems fitting. On my hardware and where I live, 1M tokens cost 2.4 cent (input) and 70 cent (output) which is comparable to the cheapest providers on nano-gpt.com.
Read the sourceIran threatens to paralyse airports in neighbouring countries if they stop Iranian flights ↗
24 Sept, 21:58 JST
A Reddit post links to a Reuters report saying Iran warned neighbours that stopping Iranian flights could lead to their airports being paralysed.
Editor’s take
Threatening to shut down a neighbour's airports turns ordinary passengers into bargaining chips. If the threat is carried out, rerouted itineraries and longer layovers will spread the cost across the whole region. It is like blocking a shared corridor during a quarrel between neighbours: those who suffer are mostly the people who were never part of the argument.

PRESSGoogle News · 在留Coexistence with foreigners: former immigration agency chief Sasaki gives a talk ↗
24 Sept, 21:49 JST
The Kiryu Times reports that Sasaki, the first head of Japan's Immigration Services Agency, spoke at a Naigai Josei Chosakai event about realizing coexistence with foreign residents.
Editor’s take
Coexistence only takes on substance once you see how the counter actually runs. A talk by the agency's first head works like a mirror: it reflects what the office has valued, and the image changes with whoever holds it up. Whether a town's welcome deepens turns on everyday contact between neighbours rather than on paperwork, and that claim can be checked.

Read the sourceUS 30-year yield hits 5.44% as rate-hike odds top 70%, pressuring growth stocks ↗
24 Sept, 21:28 JST
The 30-year Treasury yield reached 5.44% and the 10-year climbed to 5.15%, extending a broad bond sell-off. With government paper paying over 5.4%, funds have less reason to pay premiums for high-multiple tech names, leveraged companies face margin pressure, and TLT keeps bleeding.
Editor’s take
Interest rates are close to gravity for markets: as the yield available on government debt rises, the rate used to discount future profits jumps and growth valuations get squeezed almost mechanically. If the market is pricing further hikes rather than cuts, a durable rebound in expensive growth names is unlikely until yields stop climbing. The optimism that carried those prices was borrowed against cheap money, and the loan is now being called in.

The 30-year Treasury yield hitting 5.44% means the bond market sell-off is officially getting ugly. For those holding high-multiple tech or growth stocks, watch closely because higher yields directly crush equity valuations. As big funds can get a guaranteed 5.4% yield from the government, they stop paying crazy premiums for risky growth companies, and higher borrowing costs will hurt corporate margins. A lot of pressure is expected on heavily leveraged companies and tech names this week, while TLT is probably going to keep bleeding until the Fed gives us some hint of a pause. It also shows how widespread this sell-off is. The 10-year yield just climbed to 5.15% after jumping 16 basis points yesterday, and the 30-year is sitting at 5.44%. The main driver here is that the market is completely repricing the Fed's next move. After hawkish comments from St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem citing commodity shocks and sticky demand, expectations for another rate hike in October have surged past 70%. Higher for longer is definitely back on the table, and it is putting an absolute beating on fixed income across the board, long-duration ETFs like TLT. What's your defensive play if the Fed actually raises rates again next month? Source: [CNBC](https://www.cnbc.com/2026/09/24/us-treasury-yields-bonds-fed-inflation.html)

24 Sept, 21:26 JST
The EU's financial regulator has reportedly made AI and tokenization supervisory priorities for 2027. This is still an announcement stage, with no specific rules or scope given.
Editor’s take
A supervisory priority announced years in advance is a map drawn after the market has already moved. It is like scrubbing the kitchen hood only once the grease has clogged it; dinner does not stop in the meantime. If no binding rule follows from it, the priority was never a priority.

PRESSAl JazeeraFighting widens in northern Ethiopia as Tigray clashes escalate ↗
24 Sept, 21:25 JST
Armed groups and government forces have clashed across northern Ethiopia, with fears of spillover into neighbouring areas.
Editor’s take
War coverage usually arrives as a map of forces, not as the lives inside it. Here the only vivid word is "spillover" — geography, not people, and no one is named as fleeing. It is like watching a volcano's lava path on the news and realising you cannot recall a single town at its foot. When a whole region is described as tense, individual harm quietly becomes an average.

PRESSVatican NewsCardinal Parolin says Pope's France visit will shine light on life, peace and Europe ↗
24 Sept, 21:00 JST
According to Vatican News, Cardinal Parolin said the Pope's visit to France will shine light on life, on peace and on Europe.
Editor’s take
Compressing a state visit into three words — life, peace, Europe — suggests the Vatican currently wants to be heard as mediator rather than doctrine-setter. If the actual itinerary carries no concrete humanitarian or policy commitment, that framing stays at the ceremonial layer. It resembles a wedding toast so graceful that the marriage afterwards goes unmentioned.

24 Sept, 20:56 JST
With the Clarity Act having failed its vote, the CFTC has stayed busy and now appears ready to accelerate crypto rule-making, according to Selig.
Editor’s take
Rule-writing is moving from the legislature to the agency, not by design but because the vote failed. That makes the framework less a statute than a lease whose terms the landlord can change between tenants. Residents cannot prepare for a lock they do not know has been swapped. What moves prices may be who writes the rules rather than what they say.

The contest to become the next United Nations Secretary-General is heating up, with five women among eight candidates.

Changing the faces in the waiting room matters little if the same interviewer decides who gets in. The UN process is bound more tightly by who holds the final say than by how many people apply. A more varied field of candidates does not by itself break the continuity of outcomes.

PRESSAl JazeeraCould the oil shock push fuel prices even higher? ↗
24 Sept, 20:17 JST
Pressure on main supply routes from Hormuz to the Black Sea is testing the global energy market's resilience. The question is whether the oil shock pushes fuel prices higher still.
Editor’s take
Tension on supply routes is not distant geopolitics; it returns through daily refueling and delivery costs. Like turning the main tap down and watching kitchen water pressure fall, upstream disruption reaches downstream life with a delay. If the main routes stay disrupted, costs can spread beyond fuel to food and daily goods transport.

24 Sept, 20:10 JST
The Pope framed the climate crisis as a matter of justice, not only an environmental problem, Vatican News reports; the supplied material is a single image.

Naming the climate a justice issue turns warming into a debt, with the fight over who sets the repayment schedule. Placing emitting countries and harmed ones in one moral courtroom can bind harder than treaty text. It shifts outcomes only where compensation follows.

Vatican News takes up Europe's challenge of remaining human. Only an associated image was supplied, so the argument, the speaker and the specific claims cannot be read from it.

The question of remaining human usually settles into a rewrite of the human side of the ledger while reading off machine performance.
