Are "shadow people" seen on methamphetamine demons or hallucinations? ↗

23 Oct, 04:34 JST

A post asks if "shadow people" during methamphetamine highs are demons or hallucinations, and if visibility depends on circumstances. No evidence is given.

Editor’s take

Calling the experience a demon immediately makes a claim that cannot be tested with the evidence presented. Explanations involving hallucination or drug effects can be challenged through clinical assessment, while a religious reading cannot be treated as the sole cause. It is like mistaking a shadow cast by a faulty light for a visitor at the door.

Writing for a Reopened Eden ↗

23 Oct, 04:32 JST

In fiction, God and Jesus reopen Eden for saved souls, who can live 100 years in remade bodies before going to Heaven. It asks how Adam's fall matters.

Editor’s take

This fictional setup uses divine assurance to move earthly imperfection elsewhere, creating an appealing exit from the pressure of daily life. Its literary force depends on whether the fall, bodily healing, family life, and homesickness receive concrete answers. Without that specificity, salvation becomes a label that rearranges wishes rather than a source of dramatic tension.

r/Christianity · u/Rosie-Love98 · 1 points · 0 comments · Question Ok, say that you were writing a story set in Eden. For some time, for some reason, God and Jesus had reopened the hidden garden only to the saved souls. Said souls can choose to be remade into better versions of their Earth bodies and live in the garden for 100 years before returning to Heaven. They can marry, have children and live in peace. It’s better than Earth but not as great as Heaven. Yet, as everything is still affected by Adam’s fall, should there still be some setbacks? Even in the reopened Eden? Would there still be pain and sickness but with faster healing and bliss? Should the remade beings have a longing for Earth? Would they be able/allowed to visit (albeit as invisible beings that can’t be heard from or touched by the living)? When in Eden, would God allow the remade beings to be tested (even though the beings would always succeed thanks to God and Jesus’s help)? Would the remade beings be able to fly and/or fight off demons on Earth? How could/should this work?

Moderna cancer vaccine hits targets, but stock tumbles after embargo breach ↗

23 Oct, 04:31 JST

Moderna's cancer vaccine met its targets, but an embargo breach rattled investors and sent the stock lower. Key trial and breach details are not stated.

Editor’s take

Scientific performance and information governance are separate matters; meeting a target does not erase the loss of trust caused by an embargo breach. If the breach is established, investors have a concrete reason to question how information was handled, much like a student who earns a high score but shows the answers to a friend.

ICEYE and Nokia have partnered with Ukraine's Ministry of Defence to develop a sovereign satellite communications capability.

Crypto-card spending estimated above $1.5B monthly, mostly on fiat rails ↗

23 Oct, 04:16 JST

Artemis estimates crypto-card spending exceeded $1.5B monthly by late 2025, mostly via fiat. Merchants get fiat; stablecoins are sold at funding or payment.

Editor’s take

The label 'crypto spending' emphasizes a convenient funding wrapper, not crypto acceptance by merchants. Users sell the stablecoin and merchants receive fiat, so most checkout value settles on fiat rails. It resembles calling a bank transfer a card payment: familiar interface, different underlying flow.

r/CryptoCurrency · u/JakRenden2 · 1 points · 1 comments · ANALYSIS Came across an [Artemis report on how stablecoin cards actually work](https://research.artemis.ai/p/stablecoin-payments-at-scale-how) and it changed how I think about “spending crypto.” In most programs, the merchant never receives crypto at all. Your stablecoin gets sold, either when you top up or at the moment you pay, and the merchant gets regular fiat through the card network. The report estimated crypto-card spending grew from about $100 million a month in early 2023 to over $1.5 billion by late 2025, but said the vast majority of that settled on fiat rails. So the growth is real, but the crypto part mostly happens on the funding side, not at checkout. I get why it’s built this way, since it lets these cards work at any terminal. But it makes me wonder whether stablecoin cards are actually pushing crypto payments forward, or just acting as a nicer on-ramp to the same old card rails?

A 2.72/4.0 CGPA Applicant Seeks English-Taught Master's Programs in Japan ↗

An applicant with a 2.72/4.0 CGPA seeks an English-taught master's in Japan, asking whether work experience can offset the GPA and requesting tuition cuts.

Transparency on admission criteria and tuition support matters more than a polished recommendation. Years of work may matter, but no offer can be assessed without concrete university requirements. A university gate is like a toll road: published rules let applicants judge the same route.

My CGPA is 2.72/4.0, but I have several years of work experience in international sales and business development. I'm trying to find affordable universities, preferably national universities or private universities that offer good tuition reductions. I am also planning to take IELTS, but GMAT/GRE might not be in the books. For those familiar with admissions in Japan, do you think work experience and a strong research proposal can help make up for a lower GPA? Based on what you've seen, are there any universities you'd recommend applying to with my profile? I'd especially love to hear from anyone who got into an English-taught master's program with a GPA below 3.0, or knows someone who did.

I speak Japanese at roughly an N4 level and she is studying at roughly an N5 level. We are considering applying to a Japanese language school in Tokyo within the next two years (2028 intake). We have a significant financial buffer to support ourselves. The goal would be to get a sense for what it's like to live in Japan, and become as knowledgeable about the language as possible. At that point we can either return home to the US, or I could apply for a HSP visa (I estimate I can get 85 points or so at that time) and work in Japan. Our thinking is that in worst case scenario this could serve as a 1-2 year intensive language study sabbatical to gain some worldly experience. Has anyone done this before? Am I missing anything obvious? Thank you all in advance.

Samsung shareholder returns may reach KRW 600tn over three years ↗

23 Oct, 02:38 JST

KB Securities projects up to KRW 600tn in Samsung returns over three years if 50% of free cash flow is returned. HBM demand may tighten conventional DRAM supply.

Editor’s take

Pairing a large shareholder-return estimate with potential DRAM scarcity creates a persuasive investment story. Yet the payout ceiling depends on continued payouts from free cash flow, while supply constraints remain a forecast; if either assumption fails, the case weakens. Like a scarce supermarket item before a holiday, constrained supply can lift bargaining power without guaranteeing shareholder payouts.

The share of wafer capacity allocated to conventional DRAM is expected to drop from 73% in 2025 to 59% in 2027, leading to potential shortages and extended lead times, such as DDR5 lead times reaching up to 52 weeks. **Price and Revenue Growth:** HBM selling prices in 2027 are projected to rise by over 100% year-over-year, with HBM4 expected to increase from 40% of Samsung's HBM revenue this year to 80% next year. **Earnings Forecasts:** Samsung's annual operating profit is estimated to reach 368 trillion won in 2026 and 555 trillion won in 2027, driven by tight memory supply-demand conditions that are expected to persist through 2028. **Market Caution:** Despite record-high PC DRAM prices and strong forecasts, some caution remains due to already-elevated NAND flash prices and stock market volatility driven by profit-taking. https://biz.chosun.com/en/en-finance/2026/10/01/E4IYTOB5EVHTJCKNLEWBOUQA5Q/?outputType=amp https://www.businesskorea.co.kr/news/articleView.html?idxno=277996

A Reddit post asks whether Unitarian Universalism became a racial and political bubble ↗

19 Oct, 23:32 JST

A post on r/Christianity links to a Substack essay arguing that the Unitarian Universalist Church became a racial, political, and social bubble. The post adds no details.

Editor’s take

The charge of a closed bubble tests how much dissent a community can hold without calling it betrayal. A congregation that preaches openness can still become a room where everyone shares the same temperature. Whether the criticism holds can be checked by how dissenters are treated.

‘Husband had a massive stroke at 53’: reader, 64, faces renting for life but stays hopeful ↗

19 Oct, 23:30 JST

MarketWatch headline: a 64-year-old reader says her husband had a massive stroke at 53 and she will rent for life, but remains hopeful. No body is available.

Editor’s take

The headline turns housing and care insecurity into a personal story of hope. Like photographing a leaking roof as an inspirational picture, it makes the structural burden harder to see. If the body does not address rent, care and insurance conditions, this is a privatization of a systemic problem.

Is 24/7 trading worth it when tokenized stocks lack shareholder rights? ↗

19 Oct, 23:29 JST

Tokenized stocks trade 24/7 but give no share ownership. Some issuers allow redemption after identity checks; long-term holders miss dividends and votes.

Editor’s take

The convenience of all-hours trading can obscure what is being given up: the legal bundle that makes a share a share. For a short-term price trader, ownership may be irrelevant; for a long-term holder, dividends and votes are the point. Calling a tokenized claim a stock is like calling a rented suit your own wardrobe.

r/CryptoCurrency · u/MathematicianOwn8847 · 1 points · 0 comments · DISCUSSION One of the biggest USPs of tokenized stocks is 24/7 trading without traditional market-hours restrictions. These onchain stocks don't give you ownership of the underlying shares. You only get exposure to the stock's price. Some issuers let holders redeem onchain stocks for real shares if you complete the KYC requirements. If you are day trading, ownership of the stocks might not matter a lot. But if you're investing for the next five or ten years, ownership rights, dividends, and the ability to redeem your holdings become much more important. So would you give up shareholder rights for 24/7 trading? Or would you rather own traditional shares?

Animation master's programs in Japan and how to start with the MEXT scholarship ↗

A first-year animation student asks about master's programs in Japan and the MEXT scholarship. No specific universities or steps appear in the thread.

Editor’s take

Choosing a master's program is less about institutional prestige than about the supervisor and the studio environment, which is the defensible view. And any other advice for procedures I should be aware of is also always welcome (I am just starting to research this topic so I am quite clueless). I have been told by the Japanese Embassy in my country that I should take a look at the MEXT Scholarship system, I really don't know where to start it is all a bit overwhelming. Are there any specific steps I should take to boost my chances in any meaningful way, it might be a bit early to ask since I am in the first year of my uni but I think for something this ambitious I should start early. I am gonna start Japanese classes soon-ish I just have to find where so that should be covered (probably in the following month maybe 2 if I am quite unlucky at finding a place to do so), my english should be at around a C1-2 level though I just have to get a diploma for it but that isn't the priority atm. And once I am a bit more acclimated to college life I can start portfolio building but that might take a bit since I have been feeling super tired and out of my element in a new city...

Visa in hand, poster asks whether living in Japan is worth it ↗

19 Oct, 22:19 JST

The poster's father holds a Japanese residence status, and they obtained a visa to live with him before returning to Brazil to finish their studies. The post asks whether going back to Japan is worthwhile, stressing that every procedure was legal.

Editor’s take

The question is framed around whether the visa exists, but a status only decides where you may stand, not whether the days there hold anything. Holding a valid ticket says nothing about wanting to stay on the train. What is actually at stake is what a returned life would be filled with.

I went to Japan and obtained a visa to live with him, but after some time, I returned to Brazil to finish my studies. My visa is NOT illegal. We handled all the documentation correctly, and I obtained a residence visa. Just because I have a visa, it doesn’t mean I’m obligated to stay in Japan; I got the visa, spent some time in Japan, and then returned to Brazil—but that doesn’t make what I did illegal. Everything was done in accordance with the law, and I am not doing anything wrong! Now for the actual post, with my questions: I am 18 years old and a yonsei. My father lives in Japan, but I intend to stay far away from him, as we don’t get along very well. My current plan is to move to Osaka, enroll in a Japanese language school (since I only know the absolute basics), and try to find a arubaito while studying animation on my own—which is the career path I want to pursue. If I need help, I have several acquaintances there, aside from my father. Do you think this is a worthwhile endeavor? The main dilemma is that if I don’t go to Japan and instead enroll in a university program (in animation, if possible) here in Brazil, I wouldn’t be able to simply renew my Japanese visa. It expires in May—right in the middle of the academic year—so I would lose it. If I wanted to go to Japan in the future, I would have to pass a Japanese proficiency exam. Furthermore, I’m not sure if it’s worth spending years on a university degree when, in this field, what truly matters is your portfolio, not your formal education.

The idea treats research as a recipe handed over with the cooking record, not a finished dish photo. Keeping the work behind a conclusion makes AI a clerk of checkable labor, not an answer machine. Should Christians believe the Old Testament is a true story? A new believer asks ↗

18 Oct, 14:40 JST

A self-described 'baby Christian' on r/Christianity asks whether believing the New Testament requires treating the Old Testament as literal history. The poster cites secular historians who doubt Moses, the parting of the Red Sea, the flood and Abraham, and worries that conceding any of it creates problems for faith. The text cuts off mid-argument.

Editor’s take

Holding faith and historical scrutiny to the same yardstick means the shape of belief gets rewritten every time new evidence lands; that is a consequence the question itself sets in motion. It reads like comparing an old floor plan with the rooms you are actually standing in — the discrepancy is the informative part, not the embarrassment.

r/Christianity · u/Popular_Photo_3163 · 1 points · 0 comments · Question Hello everyone, I am a baby Christian. I came to believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah, son of God and God himself, and that he died on the cross for our sins. I have a question, we as Christians believe the New Testament is true, and what about the Old Testament? I have heard that many secular historians think Moses was not a real historical figure, his parting of the red sea did not happen, the flood did not happen, abraham was not a real historical figure, etc. However, aren't we supposed to believe the OT is a true story as well since we are Christians? Because if we deny some contents in the OT are not true, it will make many problems. For example, if we admit Moses was not a real historical figure, since Jesus spoke about him as a real historical figure, we have to question the reliability of the gospels, which is a big big problem. So we as Christians have to believe the OT is a true story as well, right? That's my concern. May God bless you.

Holyvolt, which develops AI tools for making and testing new battery materials, has raised $45M from Zone II, CC.VC and others, with a source putting the valuation at $245M.

Editor’s take

The funding bets that AI can shorten the slow loop of battery discovery. A confession on a faith forum: from porn and compulsion to paying for sex, then collapse ↗

The heaviest thing in the post is not the sin but the crying: someone who had not wept in years finally admits he is out of control. Treating moral collapse as hitting rock bottom is more like a pipe that leaked for a long time before the floor got wet; the problem began well before the tears. I am a male in my 20's, but I will spare personal details because I am somewhat known in my community. I have struggled with sexual desires and pornography all of my life. Over time, it spiraled and escalated into compulsive behaviors and hidden habits that I thought I could keep under control. And recently—as in this morning—it culminated in a devastating moral failure: I sought out commercial sex. When it was over and I got back to my car, I let out a cry I never knew I had in me. I am not an emotional person; I haven't cried in years. But I spent the next two hours crying endlessly. My heart ached for the woman involved, knowing the heavy reality of her life. She was once just a young child with hopes and dreams, and now this is her existence. She was kind, and even now my soul aches for her, and for the thousands of women caught in that darkness. have never felt this degenerate, empty, distant, evil, and filled with shame. I never imagined this would be where my sin led me, making me feel like a hollow robot. I have had enough. I don't even know where to begin, or what to pray. I can't get that woman out of my mind. Everything feels tainted and evil, and I hate how deeply this is seeded into my subconscious. I feel insane and too far gone. I called a friend today and told him everything—about living in repetitive, hidden sin for years and the crushing shame. Oh God, how can I look my own mother in the eyes? How can I enjoy the life of my four nephews who look up to me? Brothers and sisters in Christ, I beg for forgiveness and I beg for mercy. I don't know how to pick up the pieces, but I cannot stay here.
