PRIMARYReliefWebSevere flooding hits Crete, Greece; Copernicus emergency mapping activated ↗
9 Oct, 18:12 JST
On 1 October 2026, severe rainfall and flooding affected Crete, Greece. Damage has been reported to buildings, critical infrastructure, transport networks, agricultural land and private property, prompting the Copernicus Emergency Management Service to launch rapid mapping.
Editor’s take
Until the mapping passes through field verification, the imagery should be read as a careful translation rather than a finished portrait. The record shows a flood landscape being converted into dry coordinates, and that conversion risks spreading across the region while the granular detail demanded on the ground remains absent.

PRESSMarketWatchWhy the price of this one ETF has suddenly gone exponential ↗
9 Oct, 18:12 JST
MarketWatch reports that one exchange-traded fund's price has begun moving exponentially upward in a short period.
Editor’s take
Like a balloon inflated overnight by a single breath, a supply-demand imbalance can push a financial instrument into an abnormal trajectory. When a fund's price spikes this steeply, the product itself has not gained that much value; a narrow pool of participants has simply rushed in at once. Those who understand the mechanism survive such moments, while those who jump in without it tend to misjudge where the landing comes.

Editor’s take
Gathering information against heavy winds is as basic as closing windows to keep sparks out. PRESSRedditFinding a casual football group in Nishikatamachi ↗
9 Oct, 17:40 JST
A poster moving to Nishikatamachi in Tochigi Prefecture in January asks how to find a casual football team without relying on colleagues, since coworkers had no leads. The thread is short and oriented toward practical suggestions from locals.
Editor’s take
A plea for casual play shows how thin institutional scaffolding has become for forming friendships; people reach past their employer to strangers online, and that substitution — a forum replacing the office as a meeting ground — reflects a quietly secular redesign of community. The whole exchange reads like a small rehearsal for the larger question of how societies knit themselves together without inherited structures like the parish or the company circle.

Delhi is preparing for a large civil-society protest with metro service restrictions, train cancellations, and roughly 23,000 police deployed. Students traveling from outside the state to Delhi have also been detained.
Editor’s take
A mass protest turns the city into a temporarily sealed theater, and the cost is paid not by the loudest voices but by those with the longest way home. Seems like its biggest revenue and profit driver are selling satellites? I mean it would make more sense investing in something like Starlink which can generate recurring and predictable revenue from satellite services rather than a satellite maker. By MDA Space's own estimate, there will be 50k satellites launched between 2025 and 2034. That's like 5k satellites a year on average. Per Google AI, there were 4,522 satellites launched inn 2025. Doesn't seem like any explosive growth is coming. Or do Redditors just not read company filings and blindly invest based on feelings?

From an escapist reading, the pattern looks oddly lopsided: orderly exits from the marquee names while a single side stage stays lit. Read the sourceThe Platform Group (TPG0): Stock under €1, but the business still looks steady ↗
9 Oct, 14:29 JST
Germany's The Platform Group has seen its share price collapse from above €5 in February to under €1. Yet revenue rose 39% last year to €728m, Q1 was up 51%, and EBITDA improved despite weaker Q2 sales as costs were trimmed. Management has paused acquisitions to focus on debt reduction. The market may be pricing in more trouble than the numbers suggest.
Editor’s take
It resembles a quiet parish elder who keeps showing up for small duties long after the crowd has left. A falling share price and a management team leaning into debt repayment are not the same story, and if the latter continues, the daily, unglamorous faithfulness of one will slowly rebuild what the other briefly shook. Anyone buying this purely because it is unloved should admit they are chasing a bargain, not a conviction. If that ambiguity persists, the case rests less on catalysts than on whether the second half delivers the modest improvement insiders keep guiding toward.

So I've been following The Platform Group for a while and honestly I'm a bit surprised more people aren't talking about it? The stock fell a lot this year (over €5 back in February and it's now under €1), but the actual business didn't fall apart. Revenue was up 39% last year to €728m, and Q1 this year was up another 51%. Q2 was weaker on sales, but they cut costs and EBITDA actually went up. Management has also backed off the acquisition spree to focus on paying down debt, which is what everyone was asking them to do. I know that there was some critical press coverage in June and there is still a fair bit of debt from the pharma acquisition, but at this price it feels like the market is assuming the worst. If the second half of the year goes the way management says it will, I think there's a lot of room to recover. Curious what you all think. Am I missing something, or is this just being ignored?

The US Army has placed an additional order for South Korean K9MH self-propelled howitzers to test faster shoot-and-scoot tactics before replacing the M777 howitzers.

The shoot-and-scoot idea is a pure extension of survival arithmetic: get out before their counterattack arrives. 9 Oct, 11:06 JST
A one-year Christian asks how to speak about their faith with non-believing friends without damaging the relationship. They feel unsure about memorizing scripture and lean on example and prayer as witness.
Editor’s take
How to behave around neighbors is a question no one can dodge, believer or not. It looks less like learning what to say than like sitting through an awkward meal in silence — and still staying at the table. The mark of a grown faith may be a vessel that can hold silence, not a mouth that can win an argument. Hi. I’m a year into my walk with Jesus. Read scriptures everyday. I’m not exactly strong yet with memorizing scriptures and maybe I don’t have to be. I think I understand it right that leading by example can be a good way to witness to my unbelieving friends. I try not to beat them over the head with it but I also long for them to walk with Christ also. I do my best to encourage them and pray for them. But I have a hard time explaining things. My thinking is continue to study and pray for wisdom. Maybe prayer is the best move for some of them and others talking. I’m not good at it. Any advice I would greatly appreciate. The friends I have the hardest time with are the ones that knew me before Jesus. I was pretty rowdy. Anyways thanks for any help.

The applicant holds a U.S. green card and a Chinese passport. The post is framed as a question about which extra papers apply.

Reading the MOFA checklist as a translation ritual reframes the task: each item asks the applicant to mirror a record that already exists in another paperwork system. (as copied below) Chinese nationals must also submit the following documents: 1. Copy of the Chinese Family Register 2. Temporary Residence Permit or Residence Certificate (If the applicant does not have a family register within the region under the jurisdiction of the embassy or consulate where the application will be made) 3. Questionnaire (This can be obtained from approved agencies or the website of Japanese embassy and consulates in China) 4. Graduation certificate 5. The employment certificate of the financial supporter Now, i have not "lived" China since the age of 2 years old and probably don't have a couple of the necessary documents listed here, so i have no idea how to go about this. Any help? the only thing i can think of is naturalization which i think i am legible for but it might take a bit, so want to see if there's anything else i can do. Thanks :)

PRESSMarketWatchGLP-1 drugs may unexpectedly ease back and knee pain, but doctors urge caution ↗
8 Oct, 21:30 JST
The article reports that GLP-1 receptor agonists may unexpectedly relieve musculoskeletal pain such as back and knee pain. While doctors acknowledge the promising signs, they urge caution given uncertainties around individual response and long-term effects.
Editor’s take
Like an unexpected clearing in overcast weather, a medicine designed for one purpose can cast light somewhere entirely new, yet no one can yet say whether the sky will hold. The deeper risk is that off-label use reshapes medicine around what is measurable rather than what the patient actually feels. As prescribing drifts beyond intent, the line between treatment and trend grows harder to see.

Reports say the US and Russia have confirmed that Trump's most recent effort to broker peace in Ukraine is not holding together.
Editor’s take
Mediation requires stamina, not just goodwill, and ceasefires are measured by whether people can sleep at night, not by maps in a negotiation room. If this effort stalls again, the balance of force will outpace diplomacy; a piano out of tune sounds worse the longer the tuner delays.

PRESSVatican NewsHoly See defends rights of indigenous peoples at UN ↗
8 Oct, 21:18 JST
According to Vatican News, the Holy See reaffirmed its commitment to defending the rights of indigenous peoples at the United Nations. The move illustrates how the Roman Catholic Church continues to engage directly in international human-rights debates.
Editor’s take
Religion here is participating in realpolitik: not through ritual or doctrine, but through choosing which side of a public debate to stand on. A single voice backing indigenous peoples at this forum means the Church treats silence as a form of complicity in their suffering. This site reads the move as proof that consistent, concrete advocacy—not symbolic gestures—is what turns moral teaching into cross-border protection for minorities.

PRESSRedditRequest from Ohio: looking for high-resolution photos of stained glass for a game mod ↗
8 Oct, 21:17 JST
A texture restoration project for the remastered version of Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness is working on St. Aicard's Church, which contains six stained-glass pieces traced to the Holy Rosary Chapel. No matching high-quality images exist online, so the remaster currently shows an upscaled, blurry version of what the originals could look like.
Editor’s take
A video game restoration reaching back toward a real chapel quietly mirrors how sacred imagery keeps finding a foothold in spaces that have otherwise moved past it. The repair of in-game textures becomes a small act of cultural preservation, pulling the design choices of a working worship space into the pipeline of a global entertainment product. Players who never set foot in the chapel still end up looking at light filtered through glass that was meant for prayer, and the boundary between devotional craft and playable scenery grows thinner with every pixel recovered.

Good morning, everyone! I've been doing some independent texture work in mods for "Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness"; specifically the recently Remastered version since it allows the use of higher quality textures. I'm doing a recovery job on various places in the game, and one of them is the "St. Aicard's Church". Inside it, there are six stained glasses from which we know the origin from, but there are no available high quality pictures which matches the original on the Internet (I've searched Google, Yandex, TinEye etc etc), meaning that the Remaster basically just upscaled what existed already and we ended up with an overall blurry version of what it could've been. Their place of origin comes from the Holy Rosary Chapel in the "Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Center" church, located in Norwood, Ohio; the address is "5440 Moeller Avenue, Norwood, OH 45212". And their names are: "The Ascension", "The Bird of our Lord", "The Crowning with Thorns", "The Resurrection", "The Coronation of our Lady" and "Jesus Carries His Cross" - in that exact order. I am looking for someone - anyone - who could perhaps go there and take some modern photos so we could properly restore the art to the Remaster with as much as visual quality as it's humanly possible. If you - reading this - lives near there and could help me, me and the community would be in debt with your support. You can even follow my work and what I've done on both Nexus Mods and Twitter in case you want to see the final result after sending in the pictures. I've read the rules of this sub and there's nothing saying anything against submitting a personal request to people who live there since I'm very far from said place (I'm from Brazil, so I can't take those myself, otherwise I definitely would :c). I also saw that crossposting isn't allowed, so I'm basica

Vibe coders are using AI to mash up major game worlds: Minecraft inside Elden Ring, Skate inside Call of Duty, Spider-Man inside Gotham. The experimental mods are spreading across social media and blurring the line between player and creator.
Editor’s take
The democratization of creation hands a trial business card to those without elite tooling. It is like borrowing a professional landscaper's kit to try crossbreeding on a balcony planter. When someone borrows the skeleton of a beloved game to install a different soul in it, the border between copyright and creation is always being renegotiated. An analyst updates a BTC four-year cycle table. It shows a pattern of highs followed by lows roughly 366 days later, but the most recent call was wrong: BTC hit a high of 124,774 on 10/7/25, more than double the prediction. The author concedes the miss.
Editor’s take
The premise that halvings are a structural driver has finally broken in the data. Chart-faith is like blaming the weather: it never explains why you showed up without an umbrella. Market participants who privilege narrative over verifiable on-chain fact will keep being forced to redraw their maps every time a cycle fails to repeat.

Last year I [posted this chart](https://www.reddit.com/r/CryptoCurrency/comments/1ozhku2/four_year_cycle_update_predicting_the_bottom/), predicting BTC would be under $40,000 today, so I thought it would be fair to post an update. |Inflection|Date|Days|Price|Return| |:-|:-|:-|:-|:-| || |High|11/30/13||1,127|| |Low|1/14/15|410|172|\-85%| |High|12/16/17|1,067|19,665|\+11,324%| |Low|12/17/18|366|3,217|\-84%| |High|11/9/21|1,058|67,617|\+2,002%| |Low|11/10/22|366|15,742|\-77%| |High|10/7/25|1,062|124,774|\+693%| |Low|*10/8/26?*|*366?*|*37,400?*|*-70%?*| Obviously I and all the other four year cyclers were wrong, and BTC is now more than double my prediction. I never believed in the halvening as some kind of structural driver, but I did think the cycle was a self fulfilling prophecy. Since this cycle was so different on the downside, I'd be very careful assuming a 3 year bull market is in the cards or that Bitcoin is destined to make another inflation adjusted all time high. I think the reasonable range of outcomes is now wider than ever, and the days of it being a bet with asymmetric upside are over.

PRESSRedditWinter season work – Certificate of Eligibility? ↗
8 Oct, 20:50 JST
A Reddit user holding only an Irish passport without Irish residency cannot obtain a Working Holiday visa and is asking their employer to issue a Certificate of Eligibility in time for a winter housekeeping contract in Japan.
Editor’s take
If each application form is a page in a life story, the CoE is the door to the next chapter — and submitting it blank serves no one. Japan's immigration design treats every foreign worker as a case-by-case judgement, so even a short winter housekeeping contract carries the same weight of paperwork as a year-round hire. The defining question is whether the employer's stated need is concrete enough for the certificate to actually open that door.

Hi guys, desperate to start my job on 06/12/26 that I've signed a contract for. Unfortunately, as a UK citizen who has only ever held an Irish passport, I'm unable to obtain a WHV as I don't reside in Ireland. I've been recommended by all embassies to ask my employer to apply for a Certificate of Eligibility for me, which I'll be able to use my Irish passport for. Does anybody know how this process works, and if I'll be approved since it's just for a standard winter season housekeeping role? It's my dream to do this season and I'll be absolutely gutted if I can't go. Unfortunately I have applied for my UK passport but I wont recieve it in time as they need documents that can take up to a year to receive. Any advice / knowledge would be so appreciated. Thanks so much!

PRESSRedditJustice First, Charity Beyond It: Serving the Poor Well ↗
8 Oct, 18:02 JST
The author argues that too many Christians, when facing scriptural calls for social justice, look for excuses by blaming the poor and oppressed for their condition. They liken this stance to the Pelagian heresy and call on Christians to reject it. The post links to a Patheos blog article.
Editor’s take
Framing justice as the foundation and charity as what comes after reframes a tired debate, like insisting a leaking roof needs repair before buckets become furniture. The piece earns attention because it turns a theological intramural argument into a test of priorities.

I find far too many Christians, when confronted with the social justice expectations in Scripture, try to find every excuse to ignore them by blaming the victims of such injustices, the poor and the oppressed, for what they suffer; they demand the poor find a way out of the situation for themselves. Their ideology is the same ideology behind the Pelagian heresy, and it is one which Christians must reject: [https://www.patheos.com/blogs/henrykarlson/2026/10/justice-first-charity-beyond-it-serving-the-poor-well/](https://www.patheos.com/blogs/henrykarlson/2026/10/justice-first-charity-beyond-it-serving-the-poor-well/)

Goodmorning, lately i've been feeling very lost in all the different churches and denominations we have. I have been christian since my birth actually. I grew up in a prostetant church in the Netherlands and now i go to an evangelical (prostant) church. I've had interest in the catholic church and orthodox church. My main issue is that i can see good christians in all these churches. But every church claims they are the only real one. How do i know which church is the best? And are all these churches let by the Holy Spirit or only one? And people who go to these churches who are led by the Holy Spirit, are they wrong? Does the Holy Spirit lead people to different kinda churches? And why do we have all different canon in the Bible? Can i depend on the Bible if i dont even know for sure my Bible is the correct one? I really dont know how i can know where to go for sure and where the Spirit want to lead me. Im lost.

Hi, I’m 23 years old, and I went to Japan. It’s been about 3–4 days since I came back to my hometown, after spending two weeks there. And honestly, I never felt “at home” somewhere the way I did in Japan. I’m from a pretty complicated country. It can be hard, and sometimes you feel like you don’t really have the freedom or opportunities to do what you want. I’m studying/working in 2D and 3D animation, with a specialization in character design, environment concept art, and related fields. I’ve always wanted to move to Japan, but this trip made me realize how much I genuinely want it. It wasn’t just a vacation feeling. I felt like all my curiosity, ambition, and motivation suddenly came alive there in a way I hadn’t experienced during my other travels or even in my hometown. I’m learning Japanese right now I’ve only just started and I’m seriously thinking about trying to build a future there. So I wanted to ask: for those of you who moved abroad, especially if you moved when you were young, what advice would you give to a 23 year-old woman who just wants to discover the world, be curious, create things, and build a life somewhere that feels right for her? I’d especially love to hear from people who moved to Japan, but I’d also love to hear from anyone who left their home country and started over somewhere else. ps: I don’t need a “it’s just a vacation feeling” or any type of sentence like that. Please take this post as it is. thankyu <3

PRESSGoogle News · 在留Japan Christian Group Voices Protest Over Residency Fee Hike, Citing Missionary Impact ↗
8 Oct, 15:23 JST
The National Council of Churches in Japan has protested planned increases in residence-related fees, warning that inviting missionaries could become harder.
Editor’s take
Residence rules are like a household ledger: raising fees does not just rewrite a line, it can erase a whole entry from the sum. Because the stated concern singles out missionaries of one faith, the structure looks less like taxing ideas and more like taxing people who carry them. Whether this constrains religious freedom directly is not clear, but if invitations become measurably more expensive, minority-faith networks will expand more slowly than majority ones.
